ABOUT

entos...

or more specifically, εντός, means "within" or "inside" in Greek. This project is an invitation to explore the role technology plays in sculpting the natural human ego, the alter ego, and how they interact with each other.

IRL (In Real Life) is a performance piece which builds upon the idea of technology substituting as a reality. How does technology afford to alter the human self?  Are people controlling technology, or is it controlling people?  It becomes an obsession, human life these days seem to be built on composing different characters of ourselves in cyberspace. Is our presence needed in the real world?

IRL is composed of three parts: the interactions of the natural self, the interactions between the alter egos, and the reality (third eye).  It relies on four performers following a scripted multi-linear narrative, and gives audience members the ability to interact with the performance.  The audience is asked a question, then directed to choose an answer by either turning on their phones and pointing them towards the camera mounted on the ceiling. A computer program detects the amount of light emitted from the audience's cell phones (or any other device that emits light), and computes a result. The ending sequence of the performance is determined by that result.
